Autumn Fayre

We had the delight of attending our first Autumn Fayre in a local village. These are basically an extension of a street market for local traders.

roast chestnutsWhat a treat to eat hot chestnuts in a newspaper cone whilst walking round the stalls.

The freedom the traders have is fabulous. I was particularly taken by the pressed apple juice, sold in 1 litre water bottles with the original brand label still on the bottle!

We were spellbound by the old fashioned lathe crafting figurines, an owl as we watched. Following we looked at local cheeses, wine, breads and we sampled our first Boudin Noir, very similar to Black Pudding, delicious.

A little train with letters on each carriage came in at five Euros as stocking filler for a nephew.

Add to this chocolates, pottery, scarfs and lawn mowers and you have a great way to spend a few hours.
